Shirley Ann Sutton Lawrence Celebration of Life

Shirley Ann Sutton Lawrence (67), of Hattiesburg, transitioned peacefully Friday April 14, 2023 in Jackson, MS with her family at her side. She was the fourth child of eight born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilson Sutton on July 6, 1955 in Richton, MS. Shirley was salutatorian of the 1973 graduating class of Richton High School. She attended Jackson State University before receiving a BS degree in marketing management from the University of Southern Mississippi. On June 5, 1977, she married Charles Edward Lawrence, Jr., Esq. and resided in the District of Columbia before relocating to their forever home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Hon. Charles Lawrence, Jr.; children, Richard Sutton of Detroit, MI, Charles “C.J.” Lawrence III, Esq. of Jackson, MS, Chari-Elyse Lawrence, Esq. of Baton Rouge, LA; granddaughter, Ryckia Sutton; brothers Eddie James Sutton of Richton, MS, Roy Sutton of Hattiesburg, MS, Francis Ray Sutton of Jackson, MS; sisters Seleda Bolton of Hattiesburg,MS, Carolyn (Milton) Griffin of Richton, MS, Debra (Kenneth) Cook of Long Beach, MS, and Jacqueline (Wayne) Lockhart of Marietta, GA; and many devoted nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Merrill Sutton and father, Jack Sutton.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11am on Friday, April 21st at True Light Baptist Church, 840 Main Street, Hattiesburg, MS 39401. The Celebration of life will be followed by interment at the Bolton Family Cemetery ,at 1630 Thomas Clayton Rd, Beaumont, MS 39423. The repast will be held at the Historic Hattiesburg Train Depot, 308 Newman St., Hattiesburg, MS 39401.
